European Implementation Event 2023

8 June – 9 June 2023 in Basel, Switzerland

This year’s event theme is:

Creating a new normal

Enhancing the relevance of implementation science for society

Submission Topics:

The above list of topics is not exhaustive, and submissions under alternative topics will be welcome as long as they consider how to create a new normal and enhance the relevance of current best implementation knowledge for practice and policy in health and human services. The EIE2023 welcomes submissions from all settings and contexts in health, social welfare and education – and from all perspectives, i.e., from scientists, researchers, organizational leaders, practitioners, policymakers, funders and others. We also consider purely methodological or theoretical contributions. Detailed information about submission formats can be found here and key dates here . The EIE2023 will be held as an in-person event. We want to provide attendees with a much needed opportunity for direct exchange, discussion and networking and strengthen the implementation community in Europe and beyond.

The original Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) was published in 2009 in Implementation Science; although it is among the most cited frameworks in implementation science, advances in the field necessitated updates to the framework. As a result, the Updated CFIR and the CFIR Outcomes Addendum were published in 2022. The Updated CFIR includes revisions to existing domains and constructs as well as the addition, removal, and relocation of constructs. These changes address gaps in the CFIR as well as important critiques of the framework, including the need to better center innovation recipients and determinants to implementation equity in the framework. Since the publication of the Updated CFIR, multiple researchers in the European Implementation Collaborative (EIC) have worked to use the framework in their projects, resulting in multiple in-depth discussions about how to understand and use the Updated CFIR.

With this EIE2023 pre-conference workshop, we would like to invite a wider circle of international colleagues to join the discussion and share their experience using the Updated CFIR. This workshop is not a basic introduction to the framework; this workshop is intended for individuals already familiar with the Updated CFIR who want to share experiences using the framework and ask questions. All levels of experience are welcome to contribute to the session.
We have invited two CFIR experts to join us to share in-depth knowledge on the Updated CFIR and provide advice. Join us on April 27th online and continue the discussion at EIE2023!

Speaker(s): Bianca Albers

This interactive workshop will introduce participants to the main concepts of implementation. The EuroVision of Implementation is for researchers, practitioners, policy developers and others who want to get to know implementation and the science behind it. We will offer you a dynamic mix of brief presentations, interactive group work and facilitated discussions. After attending the EuroVision of Implementation, you will know enough about implementation terms, concepts, and tools to get the most out of your EIE2023 attendance.

Speaker(s): Katie Burke, Heather Rogers, Leah Bührmann

Are you a leader, manager, or team member working in the health and human services field who supports change efforts such as the implementation and execution of programs, practices, and policies in the health and human services field? Are you interested in improving your ability to support and sustain implementation and change efforts over time? If so, this pre-conference session may be just right for you!

The Collaborative for Implementation Practice at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work has launched a new Certificate Program in Implementation Practice based on core competencies for implementation support.  This pre-conference session will offer tools and strategies from the first course of the certificate program – Co-creation and Engagement.  The preconference session will provide hands-on opportunities to apply proven tools and strategies to your own implementation efforts.

Learning objectives include:

  • Demonstrate an ability to foster co-learning using a one-to-one activity.
  • Give examples of technical and relational strategies for building trusting relationships.
  • Identify current levels of engagement for implementation partners and assess whether a different level of engagement is needed.

Individuals who participate in this pre-conference session will be offered the opportunity to complete the full certificate program at a discounted rate in the future if interested.

Early Career Activities

Are you an Early Career Implementation professional?

If you have worked in implementation research, practice or policy for less than five years, then you definitely qualify. But you may also have a bit more experience – and feel young at heart. In either case, you are most welcome to the EIE2023 ECIP sessions and activities!

Professor Eva Alisic will join us to facilitate an interactive workshop at EIE2023 where you can learn about and explore different ways to communicate your research. This workshop is exclusively for EIE2023 participants in the early stages of their career and will take place the day before the conference at the EIE2023 site in Basel. The workshop creates space to get to know each other before the official start of the conference, get inspired and develop your own options for incorporating creative methods and artistic practice into your research communication. We invite you to think together with other early career professionals about the changes we want to achieve and how artistic methods can support these change processes.
